Oakland Criminal Attorney Francisco Rodriguez has been practicing criminal defense law for the past 24 years. He began his career at the San Francisco Public Defender’s Office, where he assisted several experienced attorneys with trial work and case preparation. After leaving the Public Defender’s Office, Attorney Rodriguez recognized the importance of appellate work and interned at the First District Appellate Project. There he learned to thoroughly develop legal issues and write persuasive briefs that capture a reader’s attention. He later joined the State Public Defender’s Office and worked on multiple death penalty cases in the habeas process, gaining a deep understanding of what it means for a person to face a death sentence and the challenges they and their families endure. After his time at the State Public Defender’s Office, Attorney Rodriguez was hired by the Alameda County Public Defender’s Office, where he focused again on representing citizens charged with crimes and on preparing cases for trial. Attorney Rodriguez is also a graduate of the Gerry Spence Trial College.
After law school, Attorney Rodriguez joined the Santa Cruz County Public Defender’s Office, handling hundreds of criminal cases and winning many trials. He later started his own practice and is now Senior Partner at Katsuranis & Rodriguez. Known in the community as a clear communicator and fierce advocate, he’s earned the nickname “Trial Warrior” from peers and prosecutors across Northern California. He often wins difficult cases and is frequently hired by other lawyers for tough matters. He is licensed in all California state courts and the Northern and Southern Districts of California federal courts.
